Student Intervention & Academic Support
At Harvest Elementary, we believe every student can succeed when provided with the right level of support. Our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) ensures that students receive high-quality instruction and targeted interventions based on their individual needs. Student progress is monitored regularly, and intervention groups are adjusted each semester to ensure students receive the appropriate level of support.
Our MTSS Process
Tier 1 – Core Classroom Instruction
High-quality instruction for all students using our district-adopted curriculum.
Daily standards-based lessons in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.
Classroom teachers use ongoing assessments to monitor progress and provide differentiated instruction.
Tier 2 – Targeted Small-Group Support
Students who need additional support receive:
Small-group instruction from their classroom teacher.
Reading and math intervention groups led by instructional tutors.
Language acquisition support for English Learners.
Tutors are currently completing Orton-Gillingham training to strengthen our literacy intervention program and provide structured, research-based reading instruction.
Tier 3 – Intensive Academic Intervention
Students requiring more intensive support may be referred to one of our credentialed intervention teachers.
Credentialed Reading Intervention Teacher
Provides intensive, data-driven reading intervention in small groups.
Uses the Heggerty phonemic awareness curriculum to strengthen foundational reading skills.
Is Orton-Gillingham trained, providing explicit, systematic, multisensory literacy instruction for students with reading difficulties.
Focuses on closing skill gaps in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Credentialed Math Intervention Teacher
Provides intensive mathematics intervention in small groups.
Builds number sense, mathematical reasoning, computational fluency, and problem-solving skills.
Uses targeted instruction to close learning gaps and accelerate student achievement.
Students receiving Tier 3 services are monitored closely, and intervention placements are reviewed each semester to ensure students are making progress and receiving the level of support they need.
Special Education Services
Students who qualify for special education services receive individualized instruction and related services based on their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Depending on their needs, services may include:
Resource Specialist Program (RSP)
Speech and Language Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Adaptive Physical Education
Our special day classrooms (SDC) maintain lower student-to-adult ratios, allowing students to receive individualized instruction, specialized interventions, and additional support in a nurturing learning environment.
After-School Tutoring & Attendance Recovery
Harvest Elementary also offers after-school tutoring for students who need additional academic support or attendance recovery. Students are invited to participate based on staff recommendation, using academic and attendance data to identify those who would benefit most from additional support. These small-group sessions provide targeted instruction in reading and mathematics, reinforce essential grade-level standards, and help students build skills they may have previously missed. Attendance recovery lessons are meaningful, standards-based, and designed to keep students on track academically while building confidence and preparing them for continued success.
Our Commitment to Student Success
From high-quality classroom instruction to intensive intervention and individualized support, Harvest Elementary is committed to meeting the needs of every learner. Through collaboration among classroom teachers, intervention specialists, tutors, and special education staff, we ensure every student has the opportunity to grow, achieve, and reach their fullest potential.
